What’s New to See and Do

Join costumed staff at Kings Landing Historical Settlement on March 21 & 22 for the Annual Sugar Bush Weekend. Children and kids-at-heart can welcome spring with the traditional art of maple syrup and sugar-making. 
 

2009 Ford Men's Curling Championship
Curling Enthusiasts from around the world will converge on Moncton in 2009. The International Ford World Men’s Curling Championship will take place at the Moncton Coliseum April 4-12, 2009 with competitors from as far away as China and Japan confirmed to attend.  This will be the last qualifying round before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.  Only 12 teams from 44 countries will qualify to attend the Curling Championship games.

Special Recognition for Excellent Programs for Winter Tourism
The efforts of two New Brunswick cities have resulted in national awards in the 2008-2009 WinterLights Celebrations Program - The City of Miramichi received a 5-star rating and special recognition for Excellent Programs for Winter Tourism. Metro Moncton was a winner in the 5-star category for Productive Partnerships.


New Brunswick named Worldwide Holiday of the Year by UK- based HF Holidays

New Brunswick and the Fundy Isles have been named the Worldwide Holiday of the year by HF Holidays. HF Holidays, established in 1921, is a UK-based tour operator offering individual and group travel packages for destinations world-wide. The Western Canadian Adventure and the New Zealand Grand Discovery packages were 2nd and 3rd. choice.


Smart Cities
Travel to two of the country’s smartest cities…Fredericton and Moncton were the only Canadian cities to be named among the world’s seven most “intelligent” global communities for 2009 because of their outstanding use of broadband and information technology. You’ll get smarter just by being here!


2009 Cultural Capitals of Canada
The City of Fredericton and the Town of Caraquet have been designated one of the 2009 Cultural Capitals of Canada by the Department of Canadian Heritage.  Fredericton’s project will focus on youth, First Nations and Francophones and will have a program containing more than 16 activities. ‘Caraquet, 2009 City of Light’, while promoting its Acadian heritage, will support various forms of art, including poetry, performing and visual arts, film, and theatre. This is the second time that Caraquet has been designated a Cultural Capital; the first was in 2003.


Natural Wonders in our Provincial Parks
New Brunswick boasts many magnificent parks brimming with natural beauty.  A new episode, No Small Wonders, leads you through trails and lets you discover the amenities, the services and the activities available in our provincial parks.  The episode can be viewed on Saturdays at 6 p.m. or Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.  Consult the listing on Rogers TV for more information.
 

New Brunswick Adventures
Season One of a new television series by Glen Ferguson, New Brunswick Adventures, is being aired on CTV's Travel and Escape channel.  Each episode focuses on one of the Scenic Drives of New Brunswick, with the sixth show focusing on our Four Seasons.  Please see the TV listing schedule on CTV’s Travel and Escape website.
